Amado Beach – Portuguese surfers paradise
Widely known as one of the top surfing spots in Europe, Praia do Amado Algarve region, is a popular hangout for all seasons. Praia do Amado beach is also a regular host to several surfing and body-boarding competitions, including local and international surfers. There is a surf camp offering vacation programs, conducted by the beach’s own surf school, making full use of the natural swell conditions along this west coast of Portugal.
With dark-coloured cliffs overlooking the picturesque Praia do Amado beach, this vast stretch of sandy coast welcomes many people, especially during summer and holiday periods. All necessary amenities including food outlets and shops, selling beach gear, are readily available to serve surfers and nature lovers attracted to the area.
Surfers busy improving their skills on the Atlantic waves, are a common sight at the Praia do Amado beach. Beach enthusiasts who choose to amble a short distance towards north of this broad expanse of soft sand, will be delighted to discover beautiful stones in various hues, ranging from pink, ochre, green and back of different swirls designed by nature.
Despite its remote location from the main towns, Amado’s Algarve region is easily accessible. Its a hassle-free 30 minutes ride southwards, about 20km from Aljezur, one of Algarve’s rustic towns. The nearest village Carrapateira, also has direct scenic route, above the cliffs, to Praia do Amado beach.
