Aqualand Water Park: Algarve Sliding Fun
The south coast of Portugal is not only for solo travelers and honeymooners. It’s also perfect for families. It offers a lot of kid-friendly attractions, such as the Algarve water park, Aqualand located in Alcantarilha.
Aqualand in Algarve (Alcantarilha) is a large marine park that offers countless rides and fun activities for both adults and children. Some of the good rides are Corkscrew or Anaconda, a multiple-level water slide; Kamikaze; Rapids, a white-water rafting adventure; Crazy Race; Congo River, a cruise along a 270-meter water; and Surf Beach. It also features a very unique skimming activity onboard a banzai. Swimming enthusiasts, meanwhile, can take a dip in the semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Smaller children can have more fun in Rainbow Park, a smaller version of the main Aqualand Water Park, as it has several mini slides and showers. This area of the park is very attractive for children, with the presence of funny giant crayons and also takes its safety very seriously, providing very shallow waters.
Visitors can relax and have peace of mind when having fun in this Algarve water park, as there are always several qualified lifeguards around and the water in the pools is very clean as it is continuously filtered and re-changed, every single day.
Other special features and amenities that can make your stay enjoyable are the park’s spacious changing rooms, fast photo-print shop, free sunbeds, and safety lockers.
Should you get hungry, Aqualand Algarve water park (Alcantarilha) has its own self-service restaurant, high quality fast-food chains, gelateria, and mini-market. If you wish to buy souvenirs and other equipment, you can head to the tourist shop where you can find a decent selection of items (although a bit pricey)
This Algarve water park is open only during touristic high season, going from June to the end of September. However, make sure you can keep tabs of its schedule through its official website (see top of page)
Take Side Trips with the Kids
Aqualand Algarve, is also very near to other excellent tourist destinations that you are advised to visit. You can ride a bus toward Vilamoura, which is famous for its large marina, fine restaurants, shops and luxury villas. Going further to the west, bus can also take you to Praia da Rocha, one of the gorgeous and most popular beaches in Algarve. There, from the beach, you can take a stroll toward Av. Tomas Cabreira, which is a favourite spot for those looking for good restaurants and night life.
You should, also, take some time to visit Alvor Beach and village. It has well-preserved historical landmarks, like its parish church, rebuilt sometime in the sixteenth century and features Manueline-period architecture.
A bit further west from Alvor, you would reach Lagos, a marine town with plenty of pleasurable places of interest. These include Saint Anthony’s Church, Praia da Luz Beach, and Forte do Pau da Bandeira
